‘Being Letters Written June 3 – September 8, 1914’, recounting the experiences of Mildred Aldrich, American author, in France immediately before the outbreak of war and as an inhabitant of the combat zone in August and September 1914, during which she witnessed the Battle of the Marne and was able to speak to various combatants. Aldrich emigrated to France in 1898, and in June 1914 moved into a cottage overlooking the Marne valley. She was awarded the Legion d’Honneur in 1922 for influencing popular opinion in the United States in favour of joining the Allies.
