Australian troops wait to board trucks. In a deep, muddy gully a vast crowd of soldiers are milling about while they wait to board army trucks parked at the side of them. They are fully equipped and armed and look heavily laden. Most of the soldiers are wearing helmets and are uniformed. In the background soldiers on horses are passing by and the start of an encampment can be seen. There were encampments further behind the trenches which were used as bases for stores, communications, HQ and for the short-term housing of troops.
