French soldiers pausing for a rest on a grassy embankment. It is a happy and relaxed scene. One man in particular is obviously having fun making the other men laugh. Three of the men, for the benefit of the camera, tip their helmets in a light-hearted manner. Scenes such as this were commonly used as propaganda, intended to boost morale amongst the troops and provide reassurance to those at home.
