Biography of Captain Frederick Courtenay Selous, D.S.O., 25th Bn. Royal Fusiliers, killed in action on 4th January 1917 at Beho-Beho, German East Africa (now Tanzania). A famed big-game hunter, his adventures served as the inspiration for H. Rider Haggard’s fictional hero Allan Quatermain. Naturalist J. G. Millais, his biographer, served in British Naval Intelligence during the conflict.
