The Maharajah of Patiala, leader of the people of the Sikh religion, inspecting a Railway Gun which dominates the picture and dwarfs the men who are standing around it. Visits from and entertainment of foreign dignitaries was an important public relations exercise as it was not only a chance for display but also to foster or cement working relationships.
